Shoreham-Wading River seems to be getting better and better by the game. On Saturday, June 1, the Wildcats claimed their second consecutive Long Island Class C championship in an emphatic 18-7 victory against Friends Academy.
Sitting on the 22nd rank of the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Ranking, Shoreham’s squad contains a great diversity of talent. Even with all of that talent, one player shined for the Wildcats. Senior Tim Rotanz, a Maryland commit, put up 13 points with 6 goals and 7 assists. Rotanz’s double-hat trick performance gave him 445 career points for Shoreham.
Midway through the first quarter, Friends Academy tied the game up for the last time of the game. Shortly after that goal, Shoreham-Wading River kicked off an 8-1 run that broke the Wildcats away from the Quakers. By the final whistle, Shoreham gained an 11 goal gap to give them a well deserved victory.
Along with Rotanz, many other Wildcats stepped up to the occasion. Sophomore Ryan Bray added on five goals and Hunter Hayes scored four more with an assist.
Now Shoreham-Wading River faces Bronxville on Wednesday, June 1 in the state semifinals. A win in that match will bring the Wildcats one game closer to their first back-to-back state championships in school history. With the form Shoreham has been in, the final seems well within their grasps.
